Ivy Wilde

Ask a question. Tell a story. Make an observation. I insist.

I go by Ivy though it is not my real name. Wilde is a reference to my favorite writer, poet and aesthete, Oscar Wilde, whose biting wit, dazzling intellect and resplendent personality are unmatched to this day. If I could meet anyone in all of history and the world it would be him. Though Jim Morrison, Eddie Izzard, Bruce Campbell, Stephen Fry, Jack White and Alison Mosshart would all be runners up. Don't get me started on fictional characters.

I've been on Tumblr for a little over a year now. I've yet to grow tired of it. In fact, if I were a cultural anthropologist I think Tumblr would make an interesting case to study. It covers such a broad spectrum of beliefs, concepts & ideas that the possibilities seem endless. One cannot help but be introduced to a wide array of information through language, photography and video recordings whether you are linked by the same language or social structures or not. Perhaps it might be used to satisfy our own egos, or to stalk ex-lovers, or even to lock out the outside world. Nevertheless, in this form, I feel it might be used towards something more positive (call me a hopeful pessimist or a skeptical optimist): networking philosophies, sharing stream-of-conscious truths and bringing out what is artistic in all of us not just for the sake of the golden (green or, perhaps nowadays, burnt out) dollar sign but for that thing inside each of us that makes us unique in whatever form it chooses to manifest itself.

I'm relatively simple in a complicated and contrary sort of way. I'm quite strange but polite and fairly open-minded I hope. If you're reading all this then thank you for your interest and time. Perhaps I'll read something of interest about or by you.

My point is this: I’ve been called a whore, orphan daughter of a drunken father, an abused wife, even an abused secretary once – always the product of male-oppression, you notice that? They have to have made Catwoman. Only way they can deal with the concept of a truly free woman - isn’t it a hoot?

You know what I’m really the product of? Selina Kyle. The whole package is MY creation, not theirs. My choice. I choose to steal, I choose not to steal. I choose to help the JLA… I choose Bruce. A truly free woman, and THEY CAN’T STAND IT – scares the living SHIT out of ‘em - why do you think they keep putting out all these demeaning stories? I’m a whore –I’m stupid – I’m weak-willed, I’m common, I’m in jail, I’m crazy. All cause there scared a woman like me could exist naturally. Scarecrow’s got it right. Fear! – it’s a real bitch.

Just a quick note— if you are a Batman fan who hasn’t read this series then I feel bad for you, because it is the paradigm of what fanfiction should be— funny, thoughtful, relentlessly intelligent, and with a huge and totally understanding scope. If you aren’t a big fan of Catwoman and you haven’t read this series then I feel bad for you, because it makes you fall in love with her.
